Dr Manuel Serrano is one of the pioneering scientists in Spain in the field of cellular senescence, tumor suppressor genes and aging. In 1993 he identified the p16 tumor suppressor gene and in 1997 he was the first to characterize cellular senescence induced by the RAS oncogene in primary cells (SCHL, USA). During his subsequent research career in Spain he has always carried out work of exceptional interest in the field of senescence, for which he is recognized as an international expert in the field. The identification of senescence induced by the RAS oncogene in vivo in premalignant lung lesions as an antitumor mechanism. The characterization of cellular senescence as a physiological mechanism of tissue remodeling during embryonic development. The connection between cellular senescence, tissue damage and cellular reprogramming processes and the study of therapeutic strategies to enhance the antitumor effect of chemotherapy-induced senescence.

His valuable experience in the subject and his great capacity for dissemination make his participation in SenesceX of great importance.

Dr. Masashi Narita is a well-known expert in cellular senescence with an international reputation. His contributions in this field throughout his long career have been very important. Among them we can highlight his work on the reorganization of heterochromatin in senescent cells with the consequent formation of characteristic foci known as SAHFs (senescence-associated heterochromatic foci), standing out for the study of their composition and function. In particular, he has led the study of the function of senescence-associated chromatin-binding proteins, HMGA, describing them as essential structural components of SAHFs. His studies have also helped to identify genes and signaling pathways crucial for the control of cellular senescence in aging and cancer.

Dr. Manuel Collado is an expert in cellular senescence, having performed one of the first papers describing cellular senescence in vivo, specifically, senescence caused by the ras oncogene in an animal model of lung cancer in mice. These types of studies have been crucial for understanding the role of senescence in cancer development and progression, as well as in aging.

He has also carried out important research work in identifying new senolytic compounds with which to specifically eliminate from tumors or premalignant lesions the senescent cells that, when they accumulate, favor tumor progression.

In addition to all this, his great capacity for dissemination makes him an excellent addition to any conference dedicated to cellular senescence.

Dr. Rodriguez Navarro is an expert in the field of aging and regeneration, focusing in several of his works on studying the role of cellular senescence in aging. He has considered the use of regenerative therapy using extracellular vesicles from young cells. This, together with the advantage of being a translational profile, as he is currently working in a hospital, makes his participation of great value.

Dr. Sonia Pernas has done important work studying the HER2 and CDK4/6-Rb signaling pathways in normal and tumor breast tissue, both therapeutic targets for the treatment of breast cancer. It has been shown that HER2 activation induces entry into senescence; on the other hand, inhibition of the CDK4/6- Rb pathway is of vital importance for entry into senescence. The studies carried out by Dr. Sonia Pernas on HER2 and CDK4/6 inhibition in breast tumors and possible combinatorial therapies to be applied in different subtypes of tumors have been of great importance in the field. Her clinical profile is an added value to be taken into account when including her as a participant.
